One may begin the practice of Atma Shiva Yoga with the following meditation.
“996: Chant Om Na Ma Si Va Ya
Chanting Mantra “Na” to begin and “Ya” to end–Na Ma Si Va Ya,
And prefixing Mantra that has “A” and “U”–” OM ”
Those who meditate thus
Will see the Primal Lord inside their head.” (Tirumandirum – Siddha Thirumoolar)
Sit in a comfortable and relaxed posture.
Close your eyes and focus your attention lightly between the eyebrows.
Inhale and chant “Om” mentally.
Exhale and chant “Na” mentally.
Inhale and chant “Ma” mentally.
Exhale and chant “Si” mentally.
Inhale and chant “Va’ mentally.
Exhale and chant “Ya” mentally.
Again inhale and chant “Om” mentally.
Continue the mantra chanting this way focusing your attention at the “spiritual eye” between the eyebrows. Before concluding the meditation, stop chanting the mantra and simply relax and focus between the eyebrows for at least five minutes.
Make sure you take three deep breaths before you exit this meditation.
The breathing method for this meditation is natural breathing through the nose.
As we begin to go deeper into this meditation we may start seeing the light of Shiva glowing deep within us.
